Mon Mar 31 19:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Orioles’ Top Prospect Cowser to Miss at Least Six Weeks with Broken Thumb

**BALTIMORE, MD** – Baltimore Orioles’ highly touted outfielder Colton Cowser will be sidelined for at least six weeks after suffering a fractured left thumb, a significant blow to the team’s early season performance. The injury occurred Sunday during a game against the Toronto Blue Jays when Cowser slid headfirst into first base.

Cowser, who finished second in last year’s AL Rookie of the Year voting, was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday, the same day the Orioles opened their home season against the Boston Red Sox. His absence leaves a considerable gap in the Orioles’ lineup; he hit 24 home runs last season.

Manager Brandon Hyde confirmed the injury, stating that Cowser’s recovery time is projected to be a minimum of six to eight weeks. “It’s not going to be the last injury we have this season,” Hyde acknowledged, emphasizing the importance of the team’s depth. To fill Cowser’s spot, outfielder Dylan Carlson was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.

This setback comes after Cowser suffered a fractured left hand last October during the AL Wild Card Series. Despite a slow start to the 2023 season (2-for-16 with one home run), Cowser’s injury represents a significant loss for the Orioles.

In a slightly more positive update, manager Hyde expressed optimism that pitcher Albert Suarez, who was also placed on the injured list with shoulder inflammation, may not require an extended absence.
