Tue Apr 01 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Local Adventurer and Community Leader, Suzie McWilliams Pool, Passes Away at 71

**Meridian, MS** – Suzanne “Suzie” McWilliams Pool, a beloved Meridian resident known for her adventurous spirit and dedication to her community, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 71.

A lifelong adventurer, Mrs. Pool’s zest for life led her on countless expeditions across the United States. She tackled portions of the Appalachian and Pacific Coast Trails, biked across Mississippi, and even participated in an advanced Alaskan adventure tour, often the oldest participant by a significant margin. Her passion extended beyond personal pursuits; she was a driving force in her community, founding PTOs at three local schools, initiating a recycling program at Poplar Springs Elementary, and actively volunteering with the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian and Friends of Bonita Lakes. She also dedicated her time to the Lit Witts reading group and was a regular participant in bunco games with friends.

Beyond her volunteer work, Mrs. Pool held various positions at local businesses, including 5th Street Deli and Southern Gardens Outfitters, and served as a certified yoga instructor. Her involvement in her church, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, was equally significant, including serving on the vestry and completing the Education for Ministry (EFM) graduate program. She also dedicated time to Camp Bratton Green and participated in medical missions in Honduras. More recently, her love for tennis evolved into a passion for pickleball.

Mrs. Pool is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Randy; her son, Keeton (Ashley); her daughter, Whitney Mitts (Fielden); her two granddaughters, Mary Beth and Terra; and her sisters, Gloria, Missy, and Dottie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Robert Barham Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be offered at http://www.robertbarhamffh.com.
