Mon Mar 31 12:11:19 UTC 2025: ## Nepal PM Blames Former King for Violent Pro-Monarchy Protests

**Kathmandu, Nepal –** Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli directly accused former King Gyanendra Shah of inciting violent pro-monarchy protests in Kathmandu on Monday, resulting in two deaths and over 110 injuries. Speaking in the House of Representatives, Oli stated that the former king’s actions, including aligning with individuals with outstanding bank loans, aimed to disrupt social harmony and further his own ambitions.

The protests, demanding the reinstatement of the Hindu monarchy, led to clashes between security forces and demonstrators. Prime Minister Oli highlighted several acts of violence attributed to the protesters, including attacks on the international airport and an oil depot, describing them as “terrorist activities.” He emphasized that those responsible for the violence, including the alleged organizers who attempted to drive a vehicle into police, would be held accountable.

Oli also pointed to a video statement released by the former king on Democracy Day (February 19) as inflammatory rhetoric that fueled the unrest. He asserted that Shah will not be granted impunity for his actions and should publicly address the events. The Prime Minister announced that a detailed report on the incident, including an analysis of the preceding year, will be prepared and presented to the House.

The Prime Minister’s statements sparked immediate protests within Parliament from members of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), a group advocating for the restoration of the Hindu Kingdom. The government has arrested 110 individuals in connection with the violent demonstrations.
