Tue Apr 01 02:50:00 UTC 2025: ## A’s Prospect Muncy Launches First Major League Hit into Orbit

**SEATTLE, WA** – Oakland A’s prospect Max Muncy made a spectacular Major League debut, blasting a 430-foot solo home run in his second game. The 22-year-old rookie’s powerful swing, registering an exit velocity of 108.7 mph, sent the 0-2 changeup from Mariners reliever Tayler Saucedo soaring well beyond the left-center field wall at T-Mobile Park Friday night. Statcast projected the homer as a “no-doubter” that would clear the fence in every Major League ballpark.

The impressive blast contributed to the A’s 7-0 victory, a game also featuring home runs from Brent Rooker and Luis Urías. Muncy’s performance adds him to an elite list; he is only the 10th A’s player since 2000 to hit a home run for their first career hit.

The young second baseman, who started in his first game on Thursday, received a classic “silent treatment” from his teammates upon returning to the dugout, only to be mobbed with congratulations shortly after. He plans to give the ball to his mother, who was in attendance along with other family members.

Manager Mark Kotsay praised Muncy’s impressive debut and noted his talent and aggressive play. Muncy, the 25th overall pick in the 2021 draft, has impressed the team throughout spring training and earned his spot on the starting lineup. His performance on Friday firmly establishes him as a player to watch. Pitcher Jeffrey Springs also had a stellar performance, striking out nine batters in six innings.
