Tue Apr 01 13:07:29 UTC 2025: ## Hundreds of KSIC Contract Workers in Mysuru Protest One-Day Job Loss
**Mysuru, April 1, 2025** – Hundreds of contract and outsourced employees of the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) protested outside the corporation’s Mysuru factory gates on Tuesday, alleging unfair labor practices and a one-day gap in their employment contracts. The disruption occurred due to a change in contract agencies, leaving workers concerned about the loss of benefits such as gratuity and jeopardizing their chances of future regularization.
The workers, represented by the KSIC Outsourced Employees’ Association, were reportedly barred from work on Monday, the last day of the previous contract, with the new contract beginning only on Wednesday. This one-day gap, they argue, is a deliberate attempt to deny them accrued benefits.
A memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner and Labour Department officials details numerous grievances, including the lack of minimum wages, earned leave, and overtime pay. The memorandum also highlights the ongoing employment of over 50 retired officers and employees, despite a January 2024 directive from the Chief Secretary to terminate such contracts. The workers contend that the termination of their contracts, particularly given the high demand for Mysore silk sarees, seems designed to damage the KSIC’s reputation.
MLA T.S. Srivatsa met with the protesting employees, assuring them he would raise the issue with the Chief Secretary and Chief Minister to ensure both the preservation of their employee benefits and their jobs. Former MLA M.K. Somashekar also offered support. The situation underscores concerns about labor practices within the state-owned corporation.
