**BEIRUT, Lebanon** – An Israeli airstrike targeting a Hezbollah member killed at least four people in Beirut’s Dahiyeh suburb early Tuesday morning, during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. The attack, the second in three days, has sparked widespread condemnation and heightened concerns of a renewed escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.
The Israeli military claimed the strike targeted Hassan Bdeir, alleging he was involved in planning an imminent attack against Israeli civilians with the assistance of Hamas. However, no evidence was provided to support this claim, and Hezbollah has yet to comment.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported four fatalities, including a woman, and seven injuries. Lebanese President Michel Aoun condemned the strike as a “dangerous warning” and called for international support to uphold Lebanon’s sovereignty. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam echoed these sentiments, stating the attack violated UN Resolution 1701 and the existing ceasefire.
Al Jazeera reported ongoing rescue operations and described the situation as “extremely worrying” for the Lebanese government, given the proximity to a previous strike and the fragility of the November ceasefire agreement, brokered by France and the United States. That agreement, intended to halt a year-long conflict, included provisions for the withdrawal of Israeli troops and Hezbollah fighters from southern Lebanon and the deployment of Lebanese troops in their place. Despite the agreement, both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violations. The latest attack casts a significant shadow over the future stability of the region.
