Mon Mar 31 12:16:40 UTC 2025: ## Israel Orders Evacuation of Rafah, Gaza as Renewed Assault Intensifies

**GAZA CITY** – Israel has issued new evacuation orders for the southern Gaza city of Rafah, escalating its military operation in the besieged enclave. The renewed offensive, following a broken ceasefire, has resulted in a sharp increase in casualties and widespread displacement.

The Israeli military announced plans to expand its assault on Rafah and surrounding areas, urging Palestinians to evacuate to the coastal area of al-Mawasi, which has itself been repeatedly targeted despite being designated a “safe zone.” This order followed reports of at least two deaths in an Israeli attack on a tent housing displaced persons in al-Mawasi.

The intensification of the offensive comes as Palestinians observe Eid al-Fitr. On Sunday alone, at least 64 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks, adding to the already grim toll of over 900 deaths since the resumption of the conflict on March 18th. The Gaza Ministry of Health reports that the total death toll since October 2023, when Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, has surpassed 50,000.

Al Jazeera reported on widespread destruction across Gaza, with Israeli forces targeting homes in Khan Younis and conducting extensive shelling in central Gaza. The ongoing attacks have left civilians, including children, living in constant fear, unable to celebrate the Eid holiday. The UN humanitarian agency (OCHA) estimates that 142,000 people have been displaced since the renewed offensive began.

The escalation follows the breakdown of a January ceasefire, triggering a renewed Israeli military campaign marked by intense shelling and forced evacuations, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The situation remains critical, with widespread death and displacement continuing amidst the holiday celebrations.
