**Kolkata, April 1, 2025** – A devastating gas cylinder explosion claimed the lives of seven people, including four children and two women, in Pathar Pratima, West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, on Monday night. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the Dholahat village.
According to Sunderban Police District SP Koteswara Rao, one woman survived the blast but sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital. All deceased are believed to be from the same family.
Police suspect that firecrackers stored in the house, along with the presence of two gas cylinders, ignited the explosion. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and whether firecrackers were being manufactured in the residence. The area has been cordoned off, and rescue operations are complete.
