**Krishnagiri, Karnataka, April 1, 2025** – Members of the Tamizh Maanila Vivasaya Thozhilalar Sangam (TMVTS) staged a protest in Krishnagiri today, condemning the Union government for withholding funds allocated to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
The demonstration, part of statewide protests, demanded the immediate release of pending funds and significant improvements to the scheme. Key demands included increasing the number of guaranteed workdays from 100 to 200, expanding the scheme’s coverage to include town panchayats, and paying outstanding wages with interest, including compensation for “job denied days.” The TMVTS also called for a daily wage hike to ₹700. The protestors highlighted cracks in the existing program and urged for immediate action to address the issues.
