Mon Mar 31 21:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Muslim Protests Mark Eid in Madhya Pradesh Amidst Waqf Bill Controversy

**Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, April 1, 2025** – Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Madhya Pradesh were marked by protests against the proposed amendment to the Waqf Act. In Bhopal, numerous individuals wore black armbands during morning prayers at the Idgah, demonstrating their opposition to the bill. Videos circulating on social media also showed demonstrations of support for Palestine.

These protests followed similar actions during Friday prayers on March 28th, organized in response to a call by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). The protests involved wearing black armbands in multiple cities across the state.

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vishwas Sarang criticized the demonstrations, suggesting they reflected a divisive mentality and questioned the timing, citing other instances of national and international tragedies where such protests were absent. He further alleged that the protests were orchestrated by certain communal leaders to mislead poor Muslims and that the Waqf has not benefited them.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government’s intention to reintroduce the Waqf Amendment Bill in the current parliamentary session, dismissing opposition claims that the bill will infringe on Muslim rights. He stated that the opposition is spreading misinformation.

The proposed amendments to the Waqf Act have sparked widespread protests across India over the past few months. The bill was previously referred to a joint parliamentary committee in August 2024.
