Mon Mar 31 15:08:30 UTC 2025: ## Comedian Kunal Kamra Misses Police Summons in Maharashtra Defamation Case

**Mumbai, March 31, 2025** – Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra failed to appear before Khar police in Mumbai on Monday, for a second time, in connection with a defamation case filed against him by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Police visited Kamra’s former residence in Mahim, but he was not present. The case stems from a video lampooning Shinde following the Shiv Sena split.

Kamra had previously requested a seven-day extension to comply with the summons, a request that was denied. He was granted anticipatory bail by the Madras High Court last week on the condition he appear before a magistrate in Tamil Nadu, where he claims to have resided since 2021.

Three additional FIRs against Kamra, filed in Nashik, have been transferred to the Khar police station, which already held one case stemming from a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. The incident sparked outrage after Shiv Sainiks vandalized the studio where Kamra filmed his video and the hotel in which it was located.

Responding on social media, Kamra criticized the police action as a “waste of time and public resources,” stating that he hadn’t lived at the address visited for ten years. The police are now expected to determine their next course of action.
