Sun Mar 30 19:08:04 UTC 2025: ## Greenland Rejects Trump’s Annexation Claims: “We Determine Our Own Future”
**Nuuk, Greenland** – Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has firmly rejected US President Donald Trump’s assertion that the United States will acquire Greenland, stating unequivocally that the territory’s future will be determined by its own people. In a Facebook post Sunday, Nielsen responded to Trump’s comments to NBC News, where the President stated he had discussed annexing Greenland and claimed, “We’ll get Greenland. Yeah, 100 percent.”
Nielsen countered, “President Trump says that the United States is getting Greenland. Let me be clear: The United States won’t get that. We do not belong to anyone else. We determine our own future.”
This strong rejection follows escalating tensions between the US and Denmark. US Vice President JD Vance recently visited a Greenlandic military base, criticizing Denmark’s efforts to secure the strategically important island and suggesting the US could offer superior protection. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen responded, expressing displeasure with the US administration’s “tone” and emphasizing the strong alliance between the two countries while reaffirming Denmark’s commitment to Arctic security.
Despite Rasmussen’s attempts to de-escalate the situation, Trump remained defiant, telling NBC News that military force was “never taken off the table” regarding Greenland. However, Rasmussen insisted the alliance remains strong despite the current disagreement.
Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark, holds significant geopolitical value due to its strategic Arctic location and potential resources. The dispute highlights the increasing competition for influence in the Arctic region.
