Mon Mar 31 10:35:27 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Steel Plant’s Power Cut After Effluent Discharge
**Erode, Tamil Nadu, March 31, 2025** – A private steel manufacturing company in Perundurai, Tamil Nadu, had its power supply disconnected on March 24th after allegedly discharging untreated effluents into a local water body. The action follows an inspection by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) prompted by a complaint and subsequent water sample analysis.
R.K. Steels Manufacturing Company Private Limited is accused of releasing the untreated waste into the LBP seepage stream on March 18th. Following a report sent to the TNPCB headquarters in Chennai, the order for power disconnection was issued.
The District Environment Engineer (DEE) of the TNPCB confirmed the power cut and stated that the company remains under continuous monitoring. The DEE also responded to a planned protest by the SIPCOT Affected People Welfare Association, scheduled for April 3rd, inviting association members to a meeting on April 1st to discuss the matter further. The association had previously petitioned the TNPCB to revoke the company’s consent order. The TNPCB has detailed the actions taken in response to the association’s concerns.
