**Chennai, March 31, 2025** – A 32-year-old police constable, R. Ganesan, was injured Saturday night after being struck by a speeding SUV driven by a drunk driver. The incident occurred in Pondy Bazaar.
Ganesan, who works at the Saidapet police station, was on his motorcycle returning home after duty when he was hit. The SUV, driven by M. Manikandan, a medical student from a Tiruchirappalli college, initially struck a median before reversing at high speed and colliding with Ganesan.
While Ganesan sustained bodily injuries, his helmet likely prevented more serious harm. He was rescued by other motorists and admitted to Government Royapettah Hospital.
Manikandan was apprehended by Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation police. A blood alcohol test at Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital confirmed his intoxication. The SUV has been seized, and Manikandan has been arrested for causing the accident.
