**Kannur, Kerala – March 31, 2025** – The Air Intelligence Unit of Kannur International Airport made a significant seizure of gold and other contraband in March. Authorities arrested a Kasaragod native who arrived from Jeddah with 997.9 grams of gold valued at over ₹89.96 lakh (approximately $1.08 million USD). The passenger was apprehended under the Customs Act, 1962, and investigations are ongoing.
In addition to the gold seizure, customs officials registered 16 cases related to cigarette and nicotine smuggling attempts totaling ₹34 lakh (approximately $41,000 USD). They also confiscated 262.7 grams of gold worth ₹21.3 lakh (approximately $26,000 USD) and 13 kilograms of saffron valued at ₹15.6 lakh (approximately $19,000 USD) during the month. The successful interceptions highlight the ongoing efforts to combat smuggling at the airport.
