Mon Mar 31 13:56:31 UTC 2025: ## Thousands Celebrate Ramzan in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi Districts

**TIRUNELVELI, March 31, 2025** – Thousands of Muslims across Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts observed Ramzan on Monday with special prayers, community gatherings, and charitable acts. The celebrations included large-scale prayer meetings at various locations, organized by groups like the Tamil Nadu Thowheedh Jamaath (TNTJ) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

TNTJ president M. Shamsul Luha Rahmani highlighted concerns about restrictions faced by Muslims offering prayers in parts of North India, citing reports of threatened passport cancellations and forced closures of meat shops. Despite these challenges, Mr. Luha emphasized the importance of community love and brotherhood, announcing that TNTJ had distributed ₹30 lakh worth of rice and groceries to needy families of all religions in Tirunelveli.

The SDPI, meanwhile, organized demonstrations alongside their Ramzan prayers, demanding the release of their national president, M.K. Faizy, arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). They also protested against the Wakf (Amendment) Bill 2024. Protesters vowed to protect mosques and burial grounds from any forceful takeover.

Similar celebrations, marked by special prayers and community outreach, were reported across various towns and villages in both districts, including Thoothukudi, Kayalpattinam, and Kanniyakumari, with many mosques decorated for the occasion. The festive atmosphere was especially vibrant in Kayalpattinam, with many residents returning from elsewhere to join their families.
