Sun Mar 30 17:31:12 UTC 2025: ## Eid-ul-Fitr Celebrations to Begin Monday After Moon Sighting

**NEW DELHI** – Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival marking the end of Ramadan, will be celebrated across India on Monday, March 31st, following widespread reports of the new moon’s sighting. Multiple religious authorities confirmed the sighting, including the Fatehpuri Masjid Imam Mufti Mukarram Ahmad, who stated that the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee received confirmations from various locations. Similar confirmations came from Jammu and Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Nasirul Islam, reporting sightings in Srinagar and other areas.

The Imarat-e-Shariah-Hind and Shahi Jama Masjid also issued statements confirming the moon sighting and declaring Monday as the start of Shawwal, the month following Ramadan. Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind head Maulana Arshad Madani extended Eid greetings and called for unity and tolerance.

This year’s Ramadan comprised 29 days, unlike the 30 days observed last year. The Islamic calendar’s lunar cycle dictates the 29 or 30-day month lengths, determined by moon sightings. The festival is observed on different days globally depending on these local sightings.
