**BOSTON, MA** – Madison Chock and Evan Bates have cemented their legacy in figure skating, winning their third consecutive World Championship title in ice dance at the TD Garden on Saturday. Their victory marks the first three-peat for an American ice dancing pair since Oksana Grishuk and Evgeni Platov achieved a four-peat for Russia from 1994-1997.
The married duo dominated the competition, winning both the rhythm dance and free dance to amass a total score of 222.06 points, a comfortable 5.52 points ahead of silver medalists Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier of Canada. Bates described the win on home ice as the most satisfying of their three world championship victories.
This win adds another layer to their impressive career, which includes a team event gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. However, their Olympic individual results have been less stellar, with finishes of eighth (2014), ninth (2018), and fourth (2022). With none of the 2022 Olympic medalists currently competing internationally, Chock and Bates have clearly filled the void, boasting an eight-competition win streak earlier this season.
Great Britain’s Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson secured the bronze medal, their nation’s first World Championship medal in ice dance since 1984. Fear and Gibson’s performance marks a significant achievement, surpassing their fourth-place finishes in the previous two years.
Chock and Bates, who married last June, are now setting their sights on the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, aiming for their first Olympic individual gold medal. While they haven’t ruled out competing beyond 2026, they are currently treating the upcoming Olympic season as their final push. The pair have consistently shown their dedication to the sport and their competitive spirit. The World Championships concluded later Saturday with the men’s free skate.
