Mon Mar 31 11:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Massive Wildfire in Upstate South Carolina Grows to Historic Size
**Greenville, SC** – A massive wildfire complex, dubbed the Table Rock Complex Fire, continues to burn across Greenville and Pickens counties in South Carolina, now expanding into Transylvania County, North Carolina. This wildfire, fueled by two separate incidents, has become the largest in Upstate South Carolina history, surpassing the 2016 Pinnacle Mountain Fire.
The Table Rock fire, ignited by four teenage hikers on March 21st through negligence, has consumed 12,592 acres and is currently 30% contained. At least one-third of the 3,083-acre Table Rock State Park has been affected, leading to the closure of all trails, campgrounds, and lakes within the park. The Persimmon Ridge fire, starting on March 22nd in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness area, further contributes to the complex.
Authorities are investigating charges against the teenagers responsible for the Table Rock fire, but currently, the focus remains on fire suppression and public safety. The fire is predominantly spreading northeast, with burnout operations planned for the southwest. The South Carolina National Guard is assisting with aerial fire suppression.
Significant road closures are in place, including portions of US 276 (Geer Highway) and Highway 11. While mandatory evacuations have been lifted and downgraded to voluntary, residents are urged to exercise caution due to poor air quality. Those with respiratory issues are advised to remain vigilant. The Pickens County School District has resumed normal bus routes.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission has established a dedicated information line (803-906-9730 or 2025.tablerockcomplex@firenet.gov) and an evacuation hotline (864-467-3428) to answer public inquiries. The Table Rock information line will close on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
