Mon Mar 31 08:34:05 UTC 2025: ## Kavarapettai Bridge on Chennai-Tada Highway Nears Completion
**Chennai, March 31, 2025** – The long-awaited Kavarapettai bridge on the Chennai-Tada National Highway (NH 16) is nearing completion, with the final bituminous layer currently being laid. The 2-km bridge, incorporating a vehicular underpass and two limited-use underpasses, along with a grade separator, is a key component of the six-lane widening project. Work on the 800-meter approach ramp, recently resumed after a minor revision of rates, marks the final stage of construction on the main carriageway of the 33-km road.
The ₹295-crore project, initially delayed by land acquisition and utility shifting, saw a contractor change after the original contractor’s contract was terminated. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), this concludes work on the main carriageway of the six-lane widening project.
Further improvements are planned for the highway. Approaches to a U-turn bridge at Cholavaram are expected to be ready by September. However, commuters like S. Kumar advocate for further widening to eight lanes due to increasing traffic congestion, particularly at the Nallur toll plaza. He also stressed the need for the proposed elevated corridor from Puzhal to Nallur to alleviate traffic issues.
