Mon Mar 31 08:56:53 UTC 2025: ## Japan’s Cherry Blossom Season Officially Begins, Promising Early Peak Bloom

**Tokyo, Japan** – Japan’s iconic cherry blossom season has officially begun, with the Japan Meteorological Agency confirming the first blooms in Tokyo on Monday. The agency reported six buds on the verge of blooming at the Yasukuni Shrine’s designated sakura tree, signaling the start of the much-anticipated spectacle.

Warm temperatures have accelerated the blooming process, leading to an earlier than usual start. While peak bloom is predicted within the next 10 days, it could arrive sooner if the warm weather persists. This announcement follows the first bloom of the year reported Sunday in Kochi, on Shikoku Island.

The Japan Meteorological Agency monitors approximately 50 cherry trees nationwide to track the progression of the blossoms, which typically last around two weeks from first bud to final petal fall.

With the season underway, tourists are encouraged to visit Japan to witness this natural wonder. Popular viewing spots include Yoshino in Kansai, Maruyama Park in Kyoto (ideal for nighttime viewing), Hirosaki Park in Tohoku, Fuji Five Lakes in Yamanashi, and Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. The Japanese celebrate “hanami,” or flower viewing, with picnics and strolls beneath the blossoming trees, interpreting the sakura as a symbol of life, death, and renewal.
