Mon Mar 31 16:05:43 UTC 2025: ## Telangana to Build Large-Scale Waste-to-Energy Plant

**Hyderabad, March 31, 2025** – The Telangana government is set to construct a major waste-to-energy plant in Huzurabad to address the growing waste management challenges in the region. The project, a public-private partnership (PPP) under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, aims to process the combined waste generated by Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, and nine other urban local bodies.

Currently, Warangal and Karimnagar generate approximately 518 and 190 tonnes of waste daily, respectively. Including the other municipalities, the total daily waste generation amounts to 807 tonnes. The new facility, located on a 25-acre site near Huzurabad, will incorporate composting, waste-to-energy, and a scientific landfill with leachate treatment. The project aims to reduce landfill waste to under 10%.

The Commissionerate and Directorate of Municipal Administration (CDMA) has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) seeking agencies with experience in managing facilities exceeding 500 tonnes per day (TPD). The deadline for submissions is April 9th. Following the EOI process, a Request for Proposal (RFP) will be issued, and the selected agency will operate the facility for 15 years. The government claims a 95% waste collection efficiency in the area, with 30% of waste (including dry waste) already being recycled. The new plant is intended to create a sustainable and environmentally sound waste management system for the region.
