Mon Mar 31 05:06:42 UTC 2025: ## Thackeray Condemns Aurangzeb Tomb Debate, Slams Maharashtra Government

**Mumbai, India** – Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has criticized calls to remove the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb from Maharashtra, accusing those raising the issue of inciting communal tensions. He urged citizens to move beyond WhatsApp-based historical interpretations and engage with more credible sources.

Thackeray dismissed the recent focus on Aurangzeb, referencing the Bollywood film “Chhava,” and questioning the depth of Hindu awakening inspired by movies. He emphasized that history should not be viewed through a religious or caste lens, highlighting the socio-political differences between pre- and post-Shivaji eras. He stated that the current focus on historical figures distracts from pressing contemporary issues.

The MNS leader also criticized the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP government in Maharashtra for failing to increase the monthly assistance under the “Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin” scheme, a promise made by the ruling coalition.

Further, Thackeray reiterated his demand for mandatory Marathi usage in all official state matters, stating that those residing in Maharashtra should speak the language. This stance was countered by BJP spokesperson Ali Daruwala, who asserted the state government’s support for Marathi as the state language and dismissed Thackeray’s comments as meaningless. The ongoing debate surrounding Aurangzeb’s tomb and the MNS’s various demands continue to shape the political landscape of Maharashtra.
