Mon Mar 31 17:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Lowcountry Facing Severe Storms Monday Afternoon

**CHARLESTON, SC** – The Lowcountry is bracing for a strong cold front bringing severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening, prompting a First Alert Weather Day from Live 5 News. The system is expected to impact northwestern Colleton, Dorchester, and Berkeley Counties, and Beaufort County between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., reaching Charleston and southeastern Berkeley Counties between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The Storm Prediction Center has rated the inland storm threat as a level 3 out of 5, though this has been narrowed in scope. While the storms are expected to weaken by the time they reach the coast, Live 5 First Alert Meteorologist Chris Holtzman warns of strong to locally damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to an inch in diameter. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

The high winds pose a significant risk to trees, power lines, and travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles on bridges. A severe thunderstorm watch is currently in effect for 22 western and central South Carolina counties until 7 p.m.

Residents are urged to download the free Live 5 First Alert Weather app for the latest updates, watches, and warnings.
