**COIMBATORE, March 31, 2025** – Coimbatore police have arrested two 19-year-old men, A. Shabeel and H. Samvarathan, in connection with at least six chain-snatching incidents across the city. The arrests followed a tip-off from a private hospital where the suspects sought treatment for leg fractures sustained in an accident.
The duo, who allegedly used stolen motorcycles and masks to conceal their identities, were apprehended late Sunday. Police recovered 49 grams of gold, ₹36,000 in cash, and two motorcycles from their possession. Investigators used CCTV footage from various locations to identify the suspects, who reportedly used railway tracks to evade police detection.
Three special police teams had been actively searching for Shabeel and Samvarathan following chain-snatching reports in R.S. Puram, Pappanaickenpalayam, Uppilipalayam, Singanallur, Ondipudur, and Peelamedu. The suspects’ attempt to seek medical treatment for their injuries ultimately led to their capture. The investigation is ongoing.
