Sun Mar 30 21:40:00 UTC 2025: **College Football Legend Gary Danielson Announces Retirement**
NEW YORK – Longtime CBS Sports college football analyst Gary Danielson announced his retirement, effective after the 2025 season. This will mark the end of a 36-year television career, making him the longest-tenured college football analyst in network history. Danielson, 73, cited the upcoming transition to full Big Ten coverage as a key factor in his decision. He joined CBS Sports in 2006, after a 16-year stint with ESPN and ABC, and played 11 seasons in the NFL prior to his broadcasting career.
CBS President and CEO David Berson lauded Danielson as “one of the greatest college football analysts ever,” praising his dedication and contributions to the network’s success. Charles Davis, currently CBS’s No. 2 analyst, will succeed Danielson as the lead analyst starting in 2026. Davis brings extensive experience, including a previous role as Fox’s lead college football analyst and five seasons as the lead analyst for TBS’s Big 12 and Pac-10 coverage. He will continue to work some NFL games for CBS this season, while JJ Watt transitions from studio work to join the No. 2 analyst team with Ian Eagle. Davis expressed both his admiration for Danielson and his excitement for the opportunity.
