**Vijayawada, March 30, 2025** – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a senior Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) official and another individual on Sunday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000. Joint Director (Scientist D) Ramakanth Sagar Muthyala of the Vijayawada BIS branch was apprehended in Hyderabad while receiving the bribe from representatives of Bengaluru-based Kronax Engineering & Pressure Vessels Private Limited.
The CBI alleges the bribe was offered in exchange for official favors. V. Lakshminarayana Reddy alias Babu Reddy and Y. S. Manohar, representing the engineering firm, were also implicated and are facing charges of bribery.
Simultaneous raids were conducted at Muthyala’s Hyderabad residence and the BIS office in Vijayawada, resulting in the seizure of incriminating documents. The accused will appear before a CBI court, and the investigation is ongoing.
