Mon Mar 31 09:21:35 UTC 2025: ## Telangana Government Reasserts Ownership of 400 Acres in Kancha Gachibowli, Denies Student Claims

**Hyderabad, March 31, 2025** – The Telangana government issued a strong statement today refuting claims by University of Hyderabad students protesting the development of 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli. The government insists it is the sole owner of the land, having legally reclaimed it after a protracted legal battle with a private entity, IMG Academies Bharata Pvt Ltd.

The land, originally allotted to IMG Academies in 2004 by the then Andhra Pradesh government, was revoked in 2006. Following a subsequent legal challenge, the Telangana government pursued the matter through the Andhra Pradesh High Court and ultimately the Supreme Court, securing ownership in May 2024. The government presented official revenue records confirming the land as government property, free from encroachments.

The government further clarified that the University of Hyderabad does not own any portion of this land, calling student claims to the contrary “contempt of court.” Furthermore, it denied allegations that the development plan, which includes an IT and mixed-use project by the Telangana Government Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC), would impact the area’s lakes or rock formations, including the prominent Mushroom rock, which will be preserved as green space.

The government characterized the student protests as politically motivated, suggesting they are being misled by those with real estate interests. They highlighted the legal processes followed, including the land’s handover to TGIIC in July 2024, and the boundary survey conducted with the university’s consent. The government emphasized the project’s alignment with its goals of enhancing IT infrastructure, connectivity, and sustainable urban development.
