**Chennai, March 30, 2025** – Over 2.17 million people participated in Gram Sabha meetings across Tamil Nadu on March 29th to commemorate World Water Day, according to reports from *The Hindu*. The meetings, originally scheduled for March 22nd, were postponed due to administrative reasons. A total of 12,481 village panchayats held the meetings, with nearly 1.3 million women and 870,000 men in attendance, along with 964 individuals identifying as a third gender. Only one panchayat, Nergunam in Chengalpattu district, failed to meet due to lack of quorum. Approximately 210,000 resolutions were passed focusing on water resource preservation, potable water supply, and groundwater replenishment strategies.
