**Washington, D.C. – March 30, 2025** – The U.S. military conducted an airstrike on Saturday, March 29, targeting the Islamic State group (ISIS) in Somalia’s Puntland region, according to a statement released by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM). The raid, carried out in coordination with the Somali government, resulted in the deaths of multiple ISIS-Somalia operatives.
AFRICOM stated that the strike, southeast of Bosasso, targeted several ISIS-Somalia facilities. Initial assessments indicate no civilian casualties. This is the second such operation in the past few days, complementing a broader counter-terrorism effort in the region. Previous U.S. airstrikes in February, also targeting ISIS operatives in Puntland, were reported by Somali authorities. While ISIS-Somalia’s presence is smaller than that of Al-Shabaab, it has been showing signs of growth in the semi-autonomous Puntland region.
