**HOUSTON, TX** – The Houston Texans have bolstered their linebacker corps, signing free agent E.J. Speed to a one-year contract. Speed, a former Indianapolis Colts standout, spent his entire four-year NFL career with the Colts before hitting free agency.
While initially a special teams player, Speed emerged as a defensive starter for the Colts in recent seasons. In 2022, he started all 15 games he played and was on the field for 98% of the Colts’ defensive snaps in those contests. His rise contributed to the Colts’ decision to ultimately release veteran linebacker Shaquille Leonard.
Speed, ranked No. 86 on a recent list of the NFL’s top 100 free agents, is expected to make an immediate impact on the Texans’ defense. The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
