**Puducherry, March 30, 2025** – Former MP and PMMMK founder M. Ramadass criticized the Puducherry Assembly’s latest resolution demanding statehood, calling it a mere symbolic gesture lacking concrete action. He argued that repeatedly passing resolutions without actively lobbying the central government diminishes the legislature’s credibility.
Ramadass urged Chief Minister to lead a delegation to Delhi to directly present the statehood demand to the Prime Minister and Home Minister. He questioned the government’s commitment, suggesting the move might be a distraction from pressing issues. He also demanded a new feasibility report to strengthen their case.
Ramadass emphasized that statehood shouldn’t solely benefit the Chief Minister but should empower the people of Puducherry economically, socially, and politically. He highlighted the success of Ladakh’s statehood movement, advocating for a similar proactive, sustained campaign involving all parties and an expert committee to bolster the demand. The report prepared by the committee should be personally presented to the central government.
