Sun Mar 30 14:20:59 UTC 2025: ## Modi Inaugurates 100% Rail Electrification in Chhattisgarh, Boosting Connectivity and Economic Growth

**Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the 100% electrification of Chhattisgarh’s broad-gauge railway network, marking a significant milestone in India’s push towards Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030. The event, held in Mohbhatta village, Bilaspur district, also saw the dedication of several other railway projects totaling over 220 km and worth over Rs 2,690 crore. These projects include the foundation stone laying for seven new lines and the inauguration of three existing lines. A new MEMU train service between Abhanpur and Raipur was also flagged off.

This achievement follows the recent completion of 100% electrification in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The Prime Minister highlighted the numerous benefits of the electrification, including faster train speeds, reduced travel times, and lower operational costs. He announced that Rs 7,000 crore has been allocated in this year’s budget to further improve rail connectivity in Chhattisgarh, adding to the already substantial Rs 40,000 crore worth of ongoing railway projects in the state.

The electrification of Chhattisgarh’s 1,170 km of broad-gauge routes will significantly increase train capacity, reduce reliance on imported crude oil, and lower maintenance costs. This is particularly important given Chhattisgarh’s pivotal role in Indian Railways, boasting the highest freight loading in the country and serving as a key revenue generator. Major railway hubs like Bilaspur, a crucial link connecting major Indian cities, will benefit greatly from these improvements. Seven railway zones across India have now achieved 100% electrification, with the nationwide goal of Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030 remaining a key priority for Indian Railways.
