**Kalahandi, Odisha –** Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the ambitious “Antyodaya Gruha Yojana” on March 30th, 2025, aiming to provide pucca houses to all rural residents living in mud houses. The ₹7,550 crore scheme, to be implemented over three years, will directly benefit around 50,000 families initially, with work orders distributed at the launch event in Kalahandi.

The scheme prioritizes financially weak citizens, disabled persons, and widows. Funds will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The state government views the initiative as crucial to improving the social status and living standards of its citizens, aligning with its “Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha” (Developed Village, Developed Odisha) vision.

The launch coincides with a heightened political atmosphere in Kalahandi, with the ruling BJP government highlighting the scheme’s benefits while the Congress party plans protests in Bhubaneswar. The scheme’s success is seen as key to the BJP’s efforts to consolidate its support in the region. BJP MLA Sri Sudhir Ranjan Patjoshi stated that the ₹7,550 crore budget will be spent over the next three years.
