**Yangon, Myanmar –** The death toll from a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on Friday has tragically climbed to 1,644, according to the country’s ruling junta. Over 3,408 people have also been reported injured. The shallow quake, which hit northwest of Sagaing, caused widespread devastation across a large area. Rescue efforts are ongoing.
