Sat Mar 29 19:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Cardinals Unlikely to Make Major Trades Before Opening Day

**ST. LOUIS, MO** – Despite offseason trade rumors swirling around the St. Louis Cardinals, particularly regarding star third baseman Nolan Arenado, a major deal before Thursday’s Opening Day is highly improbable. Sources close to the team suggest that any significant trades, especially one involving Arenado, would have already materialized. The conclusion of spring training and roster cuts further diminish the likelihood of a last-minute move.

While Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer proposed a hypothetical blockbuster trade sending Arenado to the Houston Astros in exchange for pitchers Lance McCullers Jr. and Miguel Ullola, this scenario appears unlikely. Arenado previously rejected a similar deal with the Astros in December, reportedly due to the team’s trade of Kyle Tucker. Although the Astros reportedly expressed continued interest in February, the timing, coupled with manager Joe Espada’s recent confirmation of Jose Altuve’s move to left field, makes a trade even less plausible.

Any potential trade involving Arenado is now more likely to occur at the trade deadline or during the next offseason. For now, the Cardinals are expected to enter the season with their current roster.
