**Tirunelveli, March 30, 2025** – A 20-year-old male elephant was found dead in the Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) on Thursday, March 27, succumbing to injuries sustained during a fight with another elephant.

A forest patrol team discovered the deceased tusker in the Vattappaarai area under the Mundanthurai Range. After alerting authorities, a team including veterinarians conducted a post-mortem examination. The vets determined that the elephant died from severe injuries to its heart, mouth, and left foreleg, consistent with a fight with another male elephant. The autopsy report has been submitted to the Department of Forest.
