Sun Mar 30 13:50:01 UTC 2025: ## Saline Water Flooding Displaces 65 Families in Kerala
**Alappuzha, Kerala – March 30, 2025** – Sixty-five families in Cherunkal, Kodamthuruth grama panchayat, Alappuzha district, have been affected by saline water flooding since November 2024. The Kerala State Janakeeya Prathirodha Samithi (KSJPS) blames the destruction of embankments by a fish farming lobby that leased pokkali rice fields for aquaculture. This action allegedly allowed saltwater intrusion from the backwaters.
Following a fact-finding visit, the KSJPS has urged Alappuzha District Collector Alex Varghese to take immediate action. The organization demands that the responsible parties compensate affected families for damage to buildings and agricultural land. They also request the Health Department to organize a medical camp for the residents. The KSJPS report, submitted to the District Collector, details the hardships faced by the affected community and calls for an urgent visit to the area by the Collector.
