Fri Mar 28 17:04:09 UTC 2025: ## Iran Responds to Trump’s Nuclear Talks Letter

**Tehran, March 28, 2025** – Iran has officially responded to a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump proposing nuclear talks and warning of potential military action if negotiations are refused. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the response, delivered via Oman, a long-standing intermediary between the two nations. While the content of the response remains undisclosed, Araghchi stated that Iran’s position on the current situation and Trump’s letter was fully explained.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio declined to comment on whether the U.S. had received the letter, stating only that a response was expected and that President Trump would determine further actions.

Trump’s letter, revealed earlier in March, was addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This outreach comes despite Trump’s continued “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran, which includes increased sanctions and threats of military action. Araghchi reiterated Iran’s stance against direct negotiations under these conditions, but indicated openness to continued indirect talks, similar to past efforts.

The two countries haven’t had official diplomatic ties since 1980, but have utilized intermediaries such as Oman and Switzerland. Trump’s initial letter was delivered via the United Arab Emirates. The current situation stems from Trump’s 2018 withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal, which lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program. While Iran initially adhered to the deal after the U.S. withdrawal, it later began scaling back its commitments. The U.S. decision was partly motivated by concerns over Iran’s ballistic missile program, which wasn’t covered by the 2015 agreement.
