Sat Mar 29 22:04:00 UTC 2025: ## Gaza Ceasefire Proposal Accepted by Hamas, Counter-Proposal Offered by Israel
**Cairo, March 30, 2025** – A glimmer of hope emerged in the ongoing Gaza conflict as Hamas announced its acceptance of a ceasefire proposal brokered by Egypt and Qatar. However, Israel swiftly responded with a counter-proposal, developed in coordination with the United States.
The initial proposal, reportedly involving the release of five hostages from Gaza in exchange for aid access and a temporary pause in fighting, was presented earlier this week by Egypt. While details of the modifications remain unclear, Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayyah confirmed the group’s acceptance.
Israel, however, offered a counter-proposal following consultations with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israeli government refrained from disclosing specifics, stating only that the counter-offer was made in full coordination with the US. This development follows Israel’s resumption of hostilities a week and a half ago, which resulted in hundreds of casualties.
The renewed fighting has intensified the demand for the return of 59 hostages still held by Hamas, with 24 believed to be alive. Israel has pledged to escalate military operations until all hostages are released and Hamas relinquishes power, disarms, and exiles its leadership. Israel’s ground operations expanded Saturday in Rafah, near the Egypt border.
Hamas has maintained its condition for releasing the remaining hostages: the release of Palestinian prisoners, a lasting ceasefire, and an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
Meanwhile, frustrated families of hostages staged protests in Tel Aviv, demanding a swift resolution that prioritizes the safe return of their loved ones. The protests saw minor clashes with police, with demonstrators chanting against the continuation of the war. Naama Weinberg, cousin of a deceased hostage, emphasized the urgency of a negotiated settlement, arguing that continued warfare endangers the lives of the remaining hostages.
