Sun Mar 30 05:21:16 UTC 2025: ## Hyderabad Police Welcomes First Transgender Traffic Marshals

**HYDERABAD, March 30, 2025** – The Cyberabad police commissionerate has made history by recruiting its first five transgender traffic marshals. These individuals, aged between 20 and 30, will join the existing 97 marshals assisting with traffic management in the city’s busy IT corridor and surrounding areas. They will begin their duties in April following a week-long training program.

The initiative, spearheaded by Cyberabad Women and Children Safety Wing DCP Srujana Karnam, follows a meeting with transgender activists. The recruits were selected through a rigorous process including background checks, physical assessments, and verification of educational qualifications. They will work in two shifts during peak traffic hours (8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.), mirroring the schedules of other marshals.

Their salaries will range from ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 per month, with a small deduction for accommodation provided near the police station to ease their commute. The police department is also arranging for a transgender psychologist to provide ongoing counseling and support.

This program builds upon a previous initiative launched in July 2024, which saw the deployment of 83 traffic marshals in collaboration with the Society of Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC). IT companies sponsor the salaries of the marshals, while the police department manages their training and deployment. Furthermore, successful marshals who complete at least three months of service will be considered for IT sector jobs or potential positions within the police department itself. The initiative aims to provide long-term career opportunities and financial stability for the transgender community.
