**Vijayawada, March 30, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has appealed to the central government for significant financial assistance to bolster the state’s energy infrastructure and support its farmers. During a meeting of State Energy Ministers in Lucknow, Mr. Kumar highlighted the state’s DISCOMs’ ₹50,000 crore debt burden, a consequence of alleged mismanagement under the previous YSRCP government. He noted that while ₹11,352 crore has been disbursed to the DISCOMs since the NDA government took over, further support is crucial.
The Minister’s requests included:
* **Funding for a green energy corridor:** Connecting Rayalaseema to North Andhra districts to ensure reliable power supply.
* **Support for battery storage power projects:** To enhance grid stability and reliability.
* **Reduction of inter-state transmission charges:** To lower electricity costs.
* **Timely implementation of the fuel adjustment charge policy:** Ensuring fair pricing mechanisms.
* **Amendments to the A.P. Electricity Regulatory Commission Act:** To streamline regulatory processes.
* **Allocation of 5 lakh agricultural pumpsets under the PM KUSUM scheme:** To aid farmers in adopting solar-powered irrigation.
The 2025-26 budget has already allocated ₹13,000 crore to the power sector in Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Kumar expressed optimism that the central government’s support will enable the state to overcome its energy challenges and improve the livelihoods of its farmers.
