Sun Mar 30 09:38:29 UTC 2025: ## BJP Delegation Blocked, Tensions Remain High After West Bengal Religious Clashes

**Malda, West Bengal:** A BJP delegation led by Union Minister and West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar was prevented by police from reaching the violence-hit Mothabari area in Malda district on Sunday. The delegation’s attempt to investigate clashes between two communities, which erupted on Thursday, resulted in a road blockade by BJP members and supporters.

Majumdar accused the West Bengal police of acting as a wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging police interference in Ram Navami celebrations. He claimed the police had instructed villagers not to hold the puja. The clashes, reportedly triggered by a religious procession passing near a place of worship on Wednesday evening, led to arson, vandalism, and injuries.

While police reported a peaceful situation in Mothabari on Sunday, with shops and markets reopening, internet services remained suspended. Inspector General (IG) Rajesh Yadav confirmed the peace, stating no untoward incidents had been reported in the past 48 hours. He indicated a decision on restoring internet access would be made later in the day.

Fifty people have been arrested in connection with the violence. The Calcutta High Court has ordered the Malda district magistrate and SP to submit an action taken report by April 3rd. The BJP’s claim of police bias and the continuing internet suspension highlight lingering tensions in the region.
