**VISAKHAPATNAM, March 30, 2025** – Eleven coaches of the 12551 Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express derailed near Nergundi Station in Odisha on Sunday, injuring seven passengers. The accident occurred at approximately 11:54 a.m. in the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway Section of the East Coast Railway’s Khurda Road division.

The train, en route from Bengaluru to Kamakhya station in Guwahati, Assam, was carrying a significant number of passengers. Odisha Fire Service Director-General Sudhansu Sarangi reported that seven injured individuals have been rescued and transported to a nearby hospital, adding that the total number of injured is unlikely to exceed ten.

Rescue efforts are underway with the assistance of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Odisha Fire Service. An Accident Relief and Medical Relief train has been dispatched to the scene.

East Coast Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Ashok Kumar Mishra stated that arrangements are being made to ensure stranded passengers reach their destinations. Efforts are focused on restoring the railway line as quickly as possible, with diversions planned for other trains in the meantime.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed awareness of the incident and stated that his office is in contact with the Odisha government and railway authorities to assist those affected.
