Sun Mar 30 05:30:14 UTC 2025: ## Bangkok Building Collapse Traps Dozens After Myanmar Earthquake

**Bangkok, Thailand** – A 30-story building collapse in Bangkok has trapped at least 50 people under tons of rubble, following a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on Friday. The earthquake, and subsequent aftershocks, caused widespread damage across Thailand, leaving 17 dead and prompting fears of further tremors over the coming weeks.

Rescue efforts are underway, involving robots, specialized cameras, and drones to locate and assist those trapped in the four-story high pile of debris. US special forces are supporting the operation, which is focused on the hardest-hit area, the Chatu Chak market, a major tourist attraction. Approximately 500-600 buildings in the market area are undergoing damage assessments.

Experts warn that only 10% of Bangkok’s buildings are earthquake-proof, leading hotels to issue notices to guests about potential evacuations. One resident, Deepak, an Indian citizen, described the 50-second quake as a terrifying experience, with buildings shaking violently and water spilling from rooftop pools.

While much of Bangkok is returning to normalcy, with about 90% of train lines operational and malls reopening, the building collapse remains a major concern. Authorities have cautioned that aftershocks could continue for the next two weeks.
