Sun Mar 30 13:09:57 UTC 2025: ## Ambedkar Porata Samithi Launches Delhi Agitation for Communal Award Implementation
**VIZIANAGARAM, March 30, 2025** – Members of the Ambedkar Porata Samithi departed for New Delhi on Sunday to launch a nationwide agitation demanding the implementation of the Communal Award. The group, led by president Soru Sambayya, aims to pressure the government to reinstate the separate electorate system for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), as originally envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The Communal Award, approved by British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald in 1932, aimed to ensure political empowerment for marginalized communities by establishing separate electorates. While the system was incorporated into the Government of India Act of 1935, it was later replaced with the current reservation system.
Sambayya argues that the existing reservation system has not adequately benefited SCs and STs, as influential individuals continue to dominate reserved seats. He contends that the Communal Award’s separate electorate system would better guarantee the communities’ political representation, fulfilling Dr. Ambedkar’s vision. The Samithi plans to use the Delhi agitation to raise national awareness of their cause.
