Sun Mar 30 14:20:16 UTC 2025: ## Chhattisgarh Sees Record Number of Maoist Surrenders

**Raipur, Chhattisgarh –** A record 50 alleged Maoists, including 14 with a combined bounty of ₹68 lakh, surrendered to security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday, March 30, 2025. This is the highest number of simultaneous surrenders in a single event, surpassing the 26 surrenders in Bijapur last month. Police attributed the mass surrender to the state government’s recently implemented surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy, which offers financial incentives, housing, and healthcare.

Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) P. Sundarraj stated that the majority of those surrendering were support personnel, not armed cadres. The policy provides ₹50,000 in initial aid, with further support for skill training or business ventures. The amount of aid varies depending on the individual’s rank within the Maoist organization. Mr. Sundarraj also credited ongoing security operations and the establishment of camps in previously inaccessible areas for the increase in surrenders.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai praised the security forces and highlighted the policy’s success in bringing Maoists back into mainstream society. He emphasized the government’s commitment to rehabilitating those who choose to abandon violence. This surge in surrenders comes despite a high number of Maoist deaths this year; 118 Maoists have been killed by security forces in the Bastar region during the first three months of 2025. The Chief Minister’s statement emphasized the government’s welcoming approach towards those seeking to leave the Maoist movement.
