**NOIDA, INDIA** – A Noida resident, Daljit Singh, has lost his life savings of ₹6.3 crore (approximately $760,000 USD) in an alleged investment scam orchestrated through a dating app. Singh, a director at a Delhi-based firm, met a woman named Anita on the app last year. After building a relationship, Anita allegedly convinced Singh to invest in three companies promising high returns.
Initially, Singh invested a smaller amount, ₹3.2 lakh, and received a profit, bolstering his trust in Anita. However, this was a lure. He subsequently invested his entire life savings of ₹4.5 crore and took out an additional loan of ₹2 crore, transferring a total of ₹6.5 crore to 25 different bank accounts across 30 transactions.
When Singh attempted to withdraw his profits, he was asked to pay a 30% commission. Upon refusal, contact with Anita was severed, and two of the three websites she recommended were shut down. Suspecting a scam, Singh filed a complaint with the Cyber Police Station in Noida Sector-36.
Police investigation revealed that Anita’s dating profile was fake. Authorities are currently tracing the bank accounts where the money was transferred. The incident serves as a stark warning about the dangers of online scams and the importance of verifying the legitimacy of investment opportunities.
