**KARACHI, PAKISTAN – March 29, 2025** – A suicide bomber detonated explosives near a protest rally in Balochistan province, Pakistan, on Saturday, but top Baloch nationalist leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal and other participants escaped unharmed.
Mengal, leading a long march from Wadh to Quetta to protest the arrests of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) members, including its chief Dr. Mahrang Baloch, was near the rally site when the attack occurred near Lucky Pass in Mastung. Authorities reported that security personnel spotted a suspicious individual who detonated his explosives while attempting to flee.
Mastung Assistant Commissioner Akram Harifal confirmed that no injuries were sustained among the protesters, attributing the security to government permission granted for the march. An investigation into the bomber’s presence near the rally is underway. Dr. Baloch and other BYC members were previously arrested earlier this month during a separate sit-in protest in Quetta. The BYC has been active in protesting the disappearances of individuals and alleged injustices within the province.
