**Tiruchirappalli, March 29, 2025** – A team of doctors at SilverLine Speciality Hospital in Tiruchi successfully performed a complex, 20-hour surgery on a 54-year-old man from Perambalur suffering from Pseudomyxoma peritonei, a rare abdominal cancer. The surgery, completed on January 15th, involved the removal of a 23 kg tumor and the intra-abdominal instillation of chemotherapy using a HIPEC machine.
Led by Dr. G. Senthilkumar, Head of Surgical Oncology, the team also included medical oncologists and an anesthesiologist. The patient, who had suffered from a distended abdomen due to mucin accumulation for over four years, had exhausted other treatment options.
Following the surgery, the patient received intensive care, addressing metabolic and organ-related complications, as well as psychological support. According to Dr. Senthilkumar, the patient is now recovering well. The successful procedure was announced at a press conference on Saturday, attended by the patient and the surgical team.
